Road and Rail Infrastructure in the Basildon Council Draft Local Plan

If you live in Basildon, Billericay or Wickford you will likely be aware of congestion problems on the roads and over-crowding on the trains. Traffic is at a standstill on main roads at busy times, especially in the morning for ever lengthening periods of time. If a minor accidemty somewhere is added to the chaos everything grinds to a halt and thousands are late for work or school.

It is obvious that if 15,000 new homes are to be added to the area we would need significant road and rail upgrades to cope. Junctions would need to be improved. The A127 and A13 would need widened to three lanes each way. New bypasses for Billericay and Wickford would be essential.
